Three Sisters is excited and happy to announce that we, together with some talented New England and Shenandoah Valley quilters, are putting together a collection of reproduction antique quilts based on actual 17th, 18th and early 20th century quilt masterpieces. The original quilts, some never before or rarely seen by the public, are part of permanent museum and private collections.

What this means is that quilts that have been virtually unattainable in the market place will be available for purchase by collectors, antique aficionados and regular folks alike. These reproduction quilts are "to be used" - unlike antique quilts which are generally too costly and delicate to chance damaging. Authentic reproduction fabrics are used to recreate these  beauties - down to the feel of the muslins and the depth of the dyes. Care has been

taken to replicate the stitching and dimensions: the Civil War era quilts are made with reproduction civil war era material, quilts that were originally made from scraps of ladies dresses will be reproduced using reproduction dress fabric from the appropriate era.

How many of us have dreamed of owning a true masterpiece quilt - but have had to admit that the possibility is remote. Then, there are others of us who have bought patterns of historic quilts and have never gotten around to actually making them. Finally, there are those of us who out of desperation did "the best we could do" and purchased an imported quilt that fell apart after one washing. Our experience at Three Sisters has been that even if we could find a tolerably made quilt the colors were "off" at best and inappropriate at worst. We at Three Sisters found that we were tired or "making do" and decided we would make it if we couldn't find it.

To give you a taste of what is to come here are just some of the quilts we are reproducing:

* Turkey red and muslin white school house quilt (mid 1800's)   * Amish graphic black and multi
colored ocean waves with stars (late 18th century) *green and red saw tooth star quilt  * Red and dark green nine patch checkerboard *Churn Dash (oranges and browns)  * Feathered star quilt  * red and green star spangled banner quilt
